Maine, Part 3 - Whale Watching

Monday morning we started our day with breakfast at Jordan's. Famous for their blueberry pancakes.

Monday morning before the day's main (Maine?) event, Julie, Sarah, and I finished our first of three puzzles from the week!

We knew that whale watching was something we wanted to do in the beginning of the week because they guarantee whale sighting. If you don't see them on your trip out, you can come back again. So Monday was our day to whale watch so that if we didn't see the whales we could come back later in the week. Our trip was actually a puffin and whale watching boat. We boarded excited, ready to see some birds and whales.

These two bonded on vacation. They don't completely hate each other anymore!

I love Bronson's hair in this picture.

We first went to a little island where we saw the puffins.

We were told "you might also see humans on this island. They are our interns." Which made us laugh a lot. When we got to the island, they told us "the interns aren't responding at this time." Which became another joke. Of course you can't get a hold of them, that's because they are interns, on an island, by themselves. They are probably doing some crazy stuff in the lighthouse. We thereby nicknamed the island "sex island."

Next we drove the boat into Canada (for real...it was a long trip) to see the whales.

We actually got to see a group of 7 (maybe 8) fin whales. They come up for air every 5-10 minutes, and stay up for about 2 minutes. The first sign of them is usually their steam from them coming up for air.
This was our first glimpse of them.

It was such a neat experience to see these creatures.

My favorite sighting was the last, when the boat went behind them, not beside them. From that angle you could tell just how wide and big they really were. It was awesome. I didn't get any pictures from that angle. My SD card ran out of space. Sad face. :(

None of us managed to be able to stay outside for the trip back. It was so cold!! We sat and stood inside the cabin. Bronson and I got red faces from this excursion!

After we got back, Bronson, Sarah, Andrew and I cooked up some pizzas for dinner. I can't quite remember what exactly happened after that. I know the boys went out for a bit...to get aloe for our burns. I think they got ice cream, too. And again, I can't quite remember what we did. Maybe some porch sitting? Maybe some cleaning up? Maybe some going to bed early? Probably all of the above.
